M.Sc. (Tech) Rainer Sjöström founded 1956 Navire Oy. The company designed cargo handling and other devices for shipbuilding.

Three ships were owned: The NAVIRE, ROLITA and RA that was owned by Sjöström's Ra-Shipping 1972 - 1974.

In Naantali Luonnonmaa was completed 1974 dry dock that specialized to build ship hulls. The biggest was Norwegian 108000 dwt cargo ship hull HORN CRUSADER that was deliverd 1976.

Due to economical difficulties Navire Oy was split 1981. Oy Wärtsilä Ab acquired Navire Oy. Navire Cargo Gear Oy, the subsidirary of Navire Oy, was acquired by Kone Oy.
