1917.2.26: sunk by German submarine UB40 in English Channel off Caen about 49.00N / 00.45W. Five sailors were killed: carpenter Ewert Blomqvist, AB Johan Ruotsalainen, stoker Jeremias Forsberg and two unknown. The other crew made home trip from Caen to London and continued by English ship ZARA that was torpedoed by German U30 13th April east of Lerwick. Sixteen people were killed, also the chief officer E.A.Ekholm from TAMMERFORS. One lifeboat headed for Norway with 36 survivors. Seven people died before Bergen was reached. The British Government paid 23000 £ compensation to Transito.
